Nursery and Pre K students paint at classroom easels experimenting with colors and brushes. In Kindergarten, children begin to visit Poly’s art studios, where they fashion a bowl from clay and build 3D sculptures. In Visual Arts, second graders begin the year with a study of symmetry, completing an image of a human face, while fourth graders copy a famous work of art, such as a Picasso painting, onto the seat of a stool that they take home as a memento of their time at Poly.
In Middle School, students focus on color theory as they practice blending techniques with acrylics, watercolors, and oil pastels. They explore ideas and subjects ranging from self-portraiture to real and imagined landscapes. In Upper School, young artists in Painting focus on the continued development of painting skills, as well as an enhanced understanding of the relationship between historical knowledge and painting styles.
